Alumni Series: Online Webinar “Xenoglossophobia: How to Cope with Anxiety When Using a Foreign Language”

Anxiety when speaking a foreign language is familiar to almost everyone. Even with a good level of proficiency, words may “get stuck,” your voice may tremble, and confidence may disappear. This phenomenon is known as xenoglossophobia. The good news is that it can be addressed and managed.

We invite you to a practical online webinar with Tanya Shmanovskaya — an English language teacher with 21 years of professional experience, a specialist in teaching advanced adult learners, and a holder of IHC and DELTA Module 1 certificates. Tanya has also trained in Gestalt therapy, trauma therapy, and group therapy, which allows her to combine language teaching with psychological support tools for students. In 2019, together with psychoanalyst Marina Katynya, she created the Anti-Anxiety Crash Course — a program that has been successfully running ever since.

During the webinar, we will:
▸ explore the mechanisms behind language anxiety and understand why it appears even among strong learners;
▸ learn practical techniques and exercises that can be easily integrated into classes with adult learners;
▸ master self-help strategies for those who use a foreign language at work and in everyday life — whether English, Polish, Lithuanian, or any other language;
▸ get acquainted with exercises for independent practice outside the classroom.

Format: a balanced combination of theory and practice
Audience: teachers, students, and anyone interested
Duration: 50–60 minutes
Language: Russian

Join us to learn how to transform language anxiety from an obstacle into a resource and speak a foreign language with greater confidence.
