Online course “Basics of Digital Literacy”

The American Center is launching a Digital Literacy course by American writer, educator and media literacy expert Joe Crescente.

About the lecturer:

Joe Crescente is an educator, writer, former journalist and editor, author of over 100 articles, and an expert on digital literacy.

Why might this course be useful to you?

Digital literacy is one of the key skills of the 21st century that allows you to safely exist in a digital environment. Questions about the storage of personal data, how to understand the role of the media in modern society, the impact of media on our health, the existence of information bubbles – you will have the opportunity to discuss these and other topics with a specialist from the United States.

Who is this course for?

For journalists, bloggers, students who study communications, but also for those who want to understand the influence of media on their daily life, health and thinking.

Participants should be prepared to devote approximately 1 hour to preparing and completing assignments for each meeting.

Course topics include:

Basic principles of digital literacy

How to understand our personal online habits

information bubbles

Fact-checking

Protection of personal data on the Internet

When will the classes take place?

Classes will be held on Tuesdays at 18:30 (Minsk time) from January 31 to March 7, 2023 in Zoom. Session duration: 1.5 hours.

Language: English or Russian (the language of communication will be determined by the participants)

Certificate: Participants with good attendance (4 meetings) will receive a certificate from the American Center in Minsk on completion of the program

To participate in the course until January 24 inclusive, you must fill out an application form. We will notify the selected participants before January 28:
